Day 5 after a double Cheilectomy for me. Left is sore but improving and the right seems good. I hope my recovery matches your own experience! I left my surgery for 13 years after the original diagnosis. Arthritis is bad and half of the cartilage has gone in both feet, so I would also advise people to get it done sooner rather than later - it doesn't get better on it's own. Good luck with the remainder of your recovery.

My husband placed a large comfy beach chair in the shower for me. This worked out great. Because it has a back I could lean back if necessary and the wider seat left room to place some of my bathing items. Plus, it was free!
ReplyDeleteHello, thank you soo much for sharing your journey. I too have hallux rigidus in my two big toes. It comes from having flat feet which puts stress on the two toe joints when I walk. It's starting to become more painful and I am a very active person. I love to run, do yoga, pilates, dance and other exercises. I also go to the gym 3 to 4 times a week. I've been thinking that a cheilectomy might be the best thing for me. I was wondering if any of you can please recommend some orthopedic surgeons in the NYC area. My insurance is United Healthcare Oxford. I am assuming that an orthopedic surgeon would be better than a podiatrist. Thank you for any recommendations you can offer. I am getting desperate with this pain and I want to see a doctor and have surgery as soon as possible.

ReplyDeleteHi, I'm 51 and had my left big toe done yesterday. I'm very interested in recovery time for everyone. I get the boot will be my friend for awhile and I'm hoping to put a ski boot on after Christmas-6 weeks. It's a stretch, but I'm hopeful. I'm taking 1 1/2 weeks off work. In the meantime it's Netflix and books.
